The youth ministry is comprised of six committee members, the President, Events Coordinator, Activities Coordinator, Public Relations Officers and Secretary/Treasurer. There are approximately 15-20 young people who consistently attend youth service on a regular (week-by-week basis) every Friday night. The youth ministry’s focuses on the scriptures (in the form of Bible Reading, Scripture Showers, Bible Boxing and Testimonies), as it applies to our daily lives in trying to please God and to be good examples in our walk, our talk and our behavior. The youths are reminded to always be thankful to God for all the benefits that he has afforded to us.
Each year the young people celebrated Black History month in February and Women’s History Month in March. Each youth gets the opportunity to research and write about an African-American historian and make individual presentation at an open forum, giving them the opportunity to enhance their public speaking skills and get them ready to face the world in a more positive manner.
Regular youth discussions on various topics, such as: Women of Purpose and Destiny, Gaining Ground Through Spiritual Warfare, A New Breed, Breaking Barriers, Spiritual Growth, How to maintain Spiritual Growth, Why it is important to Serve, Bullying, Peer Pressure and Self-Esteem” in which the youths participated by asking questions and sharing their daily experiences in school and every day life.
We hold fundraisers, parties and other activities in which the youths can come and express themselves in singing, dancing, poetry, etc. We are also a part of the Pentecostal Association of North America (PANA”) and participate in all their youth activities, which includes an annual Youth Retreat.
We host an annual Pre-Thanksgiving Fellowship Dinner in which the elderly members of our church are invited to dine and fellowship with the youths, with games, music, dancing and food. Being in the presence of the Lord and having fun in his presence is one of the things that will keep our youths grounded.
In the future we plan to include more events, which will also include missions. We plan to have a group of young people who will not be afraid to tell others about God and how he sent his son, Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. In the future we will be paying visits to children’s hospitals and juvenile centers, with the hope that we can spread God’s word and touch the lives of lost and troubled young people who are in search of a better life.
To reach out to the youths in Church and in the community and surrounding neighborhood by encouraging them to put God first in their lives the scriptures to “seek ye first and his kingdom and ALL other things will be added unto you – Matthew 6:33”, respect and love themselves, their parents and others remembering Ephesians 6: 1 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right which is the first commandment with a promise.
